Norton wedding_MG_6376You want peace of mind, especially when it comes to something as important as your wedding photo’s so you need to find the right photographer.

With so many amazing wonderful photographers in Scotland it can be difficult to choose the right one to capture your day.

When you meet them, trust your instincts, as this photographer will be with you all day on the most important day of your life. It’s important that you feel comfortable and relaxed that way it will show in your photos of a lifetime.

At my venue (The Lodge on Loch Goil) I work with four amazing but very different photographers.

Fotogenic of Scotland  – Is a lifestyle photography company based in Glasgow, their signature style combines aspect of fine art and photojournalism making their photos both beautiful and honest.

They have been taking photos that are timeless, elegant and stylish since 2004.

Craig / Eva Sanders Photography – Husband and Wife team, their goal is to make your day natural, bright, stylish and relaxed as possible, they capture every aspect of your day, from getting ready right through to the dancing.

They also capture the beauty of the location itself and the details that you have spend months finding.

James Alexandra – fine art wedding photography

A very different type of photographer, he only shoots medium format film, his style of photography is soft, romantic, and pure, he adores natural light, as long as the sun is above the horizon it’s all he ever needs. His pictures are timeless.

Derek Prescott – He is a local photographer from Argyll, with over 15 years experience as a wedding photographer

He takes lots of photos all in an informal and unobtrusive reportage style. Working on the principle that a complete coverage of the event is recorded rather than a few stereotyped album shots. He tried to capture those special moments that make your day so amazing.

Beautiful Brides

Over the last 12 years at The Lodge on Loch Goil I have seen so many stunningly beautiful brides, going through some of my images I feel I have to share some of them with you

I think it’s important to remember that this may be one of the very few times in your life when everyone that you love will be in one place at one time. That in itself makes the day brilliant so try to enjoy it as much as possible.

When buying a wedding dress many of us prefer to turn to high street stores when it comes to finding their wedding dress. This might be for many reasons, but it’s probably more than likely to be for budgeting purposes. There are a number of high street shops that offer a wedding dress collection for a very affordable price. “Do your homework”

How Amazing Are Parents

Winter is a wonderful time to get out and about and see some of the most amazing wildlife,

Especially the roe deer they are in fact the most widely species across Scotland.

After work last night I was driving home, when I had to stop my car to let a family of deer cross the single track road it was so surreal, they seemed to stroll but there was a baby fawn at the back that the parents where waiting for.

” How amazing are parents ” it made me think of a lovely couple Shiona and John they came to see me yesterday to view the venue for their daughter Evelyn’s wedding, as she lives in Wales with two young children travelling up to Scotland on a wild windy day in January, was not visible for her so she did the next best thing, “sent her parents “

Lots of parents come to see me because of different reasons but mainly because the bride to be lives over seas or just works too far away.  We trust our Mum’s, as they know us sometimes better than we know ourselves; there opinion is so vital when it comes to the most important day in our life.

So if you are interested in a venue but can’t seem to make it due to work commitments just

Send your Mum!

Choosing your Venue

ImageToday was a lovely day, Snowy, Windy, Rainy, Stormy !! welcome to Scotland.
January is such an exciting time in the wedding calendar, because all the couples who got engaged over the festive period start to look at wedding venues to celebrate their big day.
Getting engaged is one of the happiest and romantic times of your life. Whether you have been courting for just a few weeks or a few years you are jointly making both a personal and public commitment to get married and to spend the rest of your lives together.
I had some people booked in to see me today at The Lodge, one couple who have booked their wedding already for May 2013 “Katherine and Paul” such a lovely couple, Paul a quiet man just sitting and listening taking everything in and Katherine all excited knowing everything she wants in great detail, it’s such an amazing thing to listen to all there dreams of how they would like the day to run and knowing I have the ability to make these dreams come true.
The other couple who came later on this afternoon were also lovely “Sarah and Derek” they got engaged in between Christmas and New Year, they are looking to get married in the Autumn 2014.  Log fires, candles, romance. ” what a fantastic ring Sarah ” hopefully I will see you both again if the Lodge is the right venue for you.

Choosing the venue for your celebrations is probably the most important decision you will make when it comes to planning your wedding It’s the place where you will spend most of your day and of course where the ceremony will take place, the wedding breakfast, and also the evening party so it’s crucial to get it right. Before visiting any potential venues, sit down with your fiancé and decide exactly how you both envisage the style of your wedding.

My wonderful wedding venue is rather unique in so many ways that is why I love it so much

Have a look !!!

Scottish Laws and Traditions

Getting Married , Choose Scotland for Your Wedding!

You might be very surprised to know that you can get married anywhere in Scotland? In a wonderful Treehouse like ours at The Lodge on Loch Goil, on top of a mountain, on a beautiful Loch side or even on a beach. Just pick your favourite location and follow your heart.

One of the greatest reasons to get married in Scotland is that you can exchange your vows practically anywhere you want. The minister, priest, celebrant or clergyman carries a licence that means you can choose your venue, no matter how wild or romantic!

Choosing the right venue means that you are selecting the right canvas which your wedding will be painted.

Unusual Weddings in Scotland

You can have a religious or a civil marriage in Scotland or a Humanist wedding

A religious marriage may take place anywhere that an officiating clergy will agree to. This kind of Wedding can also be conducted according to other belief systems.

A civil wedding can be held in a registration office or in any of a list of approved places – or you can apply for a ‘temporary approval’ of your selected location.

Humanist ceremony, Scotland is one of only six countries in the world where Humanist marriage ceremonies are legally conducted. The other countries are Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway, and certain states of the USA.

Scotland’s Traditions

A Sixpence in the Bride’s Shoe
A sixpence coin may be placed in the bride’s shoe to help bring her good luck.

The Wedding Scramble
As the bride steps into the car, it is a tradition for the father to throw a handful of coins for the children to collect. This practice, called a scramble, is believed to bring financial luck

The Lang Reel
The Lang Reel is a traditional dance which happens in the fishing communities in the North-East of Scotland. The dance sees villagers and the wedding party begin dancing from the harbour, continuing through the village as each couple leave the reel when they pass their home. This continues until the only couple get home.

After working with the public for over 30 years, one thing I do very well is read people, it is so important to me from the very first initial phone call or email to our first official meeting that I get as much information I need to make their wedding day run smoothly.
The reason being I might not see them again until their big day especially if they live quite a distance away, so I always make sure that this time is very well spent.
I would normally allow two hours per couple.
Don’t look at your watch or think of the time your spending,  I know it sounds a lot but when you are planning a wedding everything must be right.
This is the most important day in this couples life, so giving them the time is a very important process in the build up to their wedding.

I tell all my staff reading and understanding people is very important in this business, because if you don’t then you could be in serious trouble.
My favourite quote always is ” There are no re-runs ” this couple can’t come back next week and do it all over again so there can be no room for error ‘ever ‘

All Brides Remember ! Trust us
Trust – is very important when you are arranging a wedding you have to let go a bit and trust your wedding planner this is so imperative to us, the reason being.
We know what works and what doesn’t work in the venue that you have chosen.
Also the timelines and the running order to make your day so magical and one that you will remember for the rest of your life.

When you go to a restaurant, you do not go into the chef’s kitchen and start telling him how his food should be cooked and served.

Leave the professionals to there job, and everyone will be happy.

Small is beautiful

Well I was just about to put my son to bed and read him a story when my mobile phone rang, thinking it was a family member I picked it up and it was a lovely man that I spoke to last week from Virginia USA .
After chatting in great detail he wanted to book The Lodge on Loch Goil for his wedding this March for just four people. He was very excited as he was chatting he told me that he proposed last Saturday, she obviously said yes, I do so enjoy arranging weddings that are small and very intimate I find it so romantic. Over the years I have arranged many small  weddings, sometimes just for two people, with myself and a member of my staff as there witnesses, even taking the wedding photo’s. ” What an amazing Job I have “Image
